Capitalization Rules for Titles

  1. Initialisms (like "CD" or "USA") and most acronyms (like "NASA" but not "laser") should occur in all capital letters with no intervening periods.
  2. Abbreviations (like "Mr." and "abbr.") and name initials (as in "W.C. Fields") must use periods.
  3. All words of at least five letters must begin with a capital letter.
  4. All words beginning a phrase must begin with a capital letter.
  5. As for other words, only articles ("a", "an", and "the"), conjunctions (like "and" and "or"), and prepositions (that take a noun phrase as an argument) are exempt from capitalization.
